At this moment in time young kids are losing out every step of the way. All the support they can get with their mental health. They need job opportunities!!!!

The focus on The Way is not far reaching enough to supporting young people. Youth work in local communities is the most effective and accessible. Funding and support to grow back the vibtrant youuth offer we used to have in the city needs to be put in place, youth worker training needs supporting and promoting. many qualified and experienced youth workers (like myself) were made redundant in the last decade and left the profession, this needs to be rectified with youth work as a viable career. Youth work is one of the most effective and cost effective ways of supporting young people and needs massive investment to support the voluntary sector to thrive again. young people will need support to acces the funding offer, the youth bank model could be rekindled in the City.

I have been optimistic with my initial thoughts on the slide bar as I hope that the initiatives outlined will be a great help the the younger generation. However I notice with those whom I have contact that they don't seem to want organised programmes unless it is to go to disco's or nightclubs. I think that the council will have to be constantly pressing home the fact that facilities are available. As such I believe that you must start with the very young (4+ etc.) and keep them interested right through their school life so that they grow up wanting the facilities provided. I also think that the council should set up local area group/committee meetings that include children even as young as 5 to get a better idea of the types of activities that they would like and where they would like them to be sited. These groups could be formed through the local schools, one for each of primary, secondary and tertiary sectors.
